12. Be aware of your surroundings
This is a free tip: be aware of what is around you. When living in a neighborhood or apartment, get to know your neighbors, their cars, their family members and friends. You’ll immediately know if something is off if you see a new car or person hanging around. Many police departments have a non-emergency line if something feels off and you simply want an officer to patrol or don’t feel comfortable calling 911. As the saying goes, “if you see something, say something!”
